Eric Hoffman is a vice president in Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Allen’s Los Angeles Major Business Center and a leader in one of our most important focus areas: space transformation. With over 27 years of experience in space systems engineering, Eric has worked on launch vehicles, satellites, and ground systems, and more recently in program and portfolio management. He leads programs in the areas of resilient positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT); signal processing; large-scale space program integration; software development; and cyber systems and analysis.

Prior to joining Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Allen, Eric served in the Air Force. As a space systems engineer, he supported programs such as the Pegasus small launch vehicle and the Delta II program, which launched many of the initial GPS satellites in the mid-1990s. His last Air Force assignment was as launch and early orbit operations manager for the Milstar satellite communications system.

Eric holds a B.S. in aeronautical engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University.

What’s a lesson you learned from your family that’s still relevant to you today?ÌýMy grandfather was a CEO and helped instill in me several lessons that I proudly carry with me to this day. Be humble—don’t take your position for granted. Work hard, but also take time for family, friends, and giving back to the community. And always treat all of your staff with respect, regardless of their role or level.

What are the greatest challenges facing the nation’s space programs today? And the biggest opportunities?ÌýUntil recently, the United States had unquestioned technical superiority in space. Now that advantage is being narrowed and challenged by other countries. We and our allies have to be willing to take more risks and move faster in developing and implementing new space systems.

At the same time, there's a tremendous amount of private investment going into new space systems and commercial ventures. We at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Allen are supporting the development of non-proprietary space mission systems and new approaches to technical management and program integration. We're also helping our government clients understand and leverage new technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cyber systems and analysis to ensure that the United States maintains its superiority in space.

How are you contributing to creating a culture of diversity and inclusion at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Allen?ÌýÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ Allen is constantly evolving to stay ahead of the latest trends, and that includes creating a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone is treated with respect and has equal opportunity to succeed. I’m fortunate to live and work in the Los Angeles area, which is one of the country’s true melting pots. I’m currently sponsoring the local chapter of our Rising Leaders Forum, and I’ve supported the establishment of several Business Resource Groups in our office to encourage diversity. We’ve long had a Women’s Forum and an Asian Pacific American Network, and we’ve started El Segundo GLOBE+, military veteran, and African American Network chapters. None of this is to suggest that we're done yet. I believe that we should constantly review our progress and hold ourselves accountable over time to ensure that we are continuing to recruit and maintain a highly diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the nation as a whole.
